Membership and Affiliation
Two separate programs for membership are available:

Affiliate Membership (Affiliates)
Includes both on-campus and external partners who have interest in the activities of the BBC.
Full Membership (Members)
Open only to Purdue personnel; this member level includes a higher degree of participation in core activities of the Center.
Affiliates
The Affiliates Program fosters and enhances communication and collaboration among investigators in research areas of the BBC.
A database of names, areas of expertise, topics of interests, and contact information enables communications among investigators
and stimulates interdisciplinary research team development. Affiliates include Purdue faculty and research staff and external
collaborative partners (both corporate and academic) who have expressed interest in Center programs or facilities. Establishing
and maintaining affiliate status is voluntary. To become a BBC Affiliate, self-guided electronic registration is available on
the BBC website: www.purdue.edu/bbc. Affiliate membership is reviewed annually either by an open re-application process or invitation-to-reapply.
Benefits to Affiliates
- Professional administrative staff assistance and related resources for multi-investigator research proposals.
- Leadership for center and program grants.
- Information about major funding opportunities; potential areas for collaboration; shared scientific expertise
and capabilities associated with the Research Core facilities.
- Opportunities for input of ideas and directions for new grant initiatives.
- Information about other researchers and research initiatives.
- Access to Research Core Facilities for systems biology approaches.
- Consultation on importing research tools and technologies into research programs.
- Faculty recruiting assistance.
- Help in developing corporate and university consortia.
- Invitation to and sponsorship for symposia and seminars.

Requirements of Affiliate Membership
- Acknowledged use of the shared facilities in the BBC in all relevant publications.
- Inclusion (when appropriate) of BBC personnel and full members as authors or inventors.
- Participation in BBC sponsored meetings, symposiums, or sanctioned functions (at least one event annually).
- Advocacy for the overall mission of Discovery Park.
- Respect for and maintenance of the governing principles of the BBC.
- Compliance with the policies for the use of Research Core Facilities.

Full Members
Purdue faculty and research staff with expertise and have demonstrated commitment to the mission of the BBC are invited by the Executive
Leadership Team to become Full Members. Full Members undertake significant roles in defining BBC programs and outcomes.
Benefits of Full Membership
- All benefits of Affiliate status.
- Priority in use of Research Core facilities and access to new technologies therein.
- Administrative support for proposal development/assembly of effective research teams.
- Funding to meet university match requirements on grant proposals.
- Seed funds to acquire preliminary data for new sponsored research initiatives.
- Connection to Discovery Park Centers and ability to leverage these resources.
- Access to the network of external collaborators and partners of the BBC.
- Priority consideration in laboratory and office space assignments.
- Access to professional staff who offer training, perform routine equipment maintenance, and expertise in
optimizing use of equipment.

Requirements for Full Membership
- All requirements of the Affiliate status.
- Submit grant proposals through the BBC when the proposed activity is performed in the center and/or includes
BBC research staff or Research Core Facilities.
- List the BBC as a home unit in scholarly publications, at scientific meetings, and in public presentations
of the research related to work in the BBC or activity using BBC facilities.
- Provide periodic project summaries and records of papers, presentations, students, collaborations, proposals,
and research grants that involve work in the BBC, interaction with BBC research staff, or use of BBC facilities.
- Recognize the BBC in patents and licenses arising from relevant sponsored research.
- Participate in BBC sponsored programs or grant initiatives.
- Participate in BBC functions, such as seminars, symposia, and special training courses.
- Advocate and provide leadership in advancing the mission and vision of Discovery Park.
- Participate in the scholarly activities and contribute to the intellectual climate of the BBC.
